It’s Thursday and you know what that means…another edition of Booking Through Thursday is here.

This week’s question is: What’s the best book you’ve read recently? (Tell me you didn’t see this one coming?)

This was a tough decision to make. I’ve read some mediocre books of late, but I’ve read some great ones too and I was having a difficult time choosing between them.

But the winner by a few points is The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. (Coming in a close second is Generation Dead by Daniel Waters.)

I adored reading The Lightning Thief and its characters and adventuring with Percy. When I finished the book, I was breathless and in a mild state of awe wondering why I had waited so long to start this series. (It’s kind of like Harry Potter in that sense…you’re beating yourself up for being literarily lazy.)

The review is in the queue. Shame on me for still being lazy.

Wow it’s amazing how quickly a week flies by, especially when you’ve got a lot on your plate. It’s time again for another Wondrous Words Wednesday post, the weekly meme hosted by Bermudaonion.

Since I haven’t gotten far enough into my current read to run into any words that are new to me (or just fuzzy), I’ll be relying on my last week’s read…

Thirst (No. 1) by Christopher Pike

I should also mention that I was hard-pressed to expand my vocabulary with this title.

tamasic: adj. characterized by ignorance or inactivity, one of the gunas in Hindu philosophy.

“Your kind is for the most part tamasic—negative.” pg. 150

bespeckle: verb To speckle.*

Although I already knew this word, I added it to the list because, frankly, its use in this case boggles my mind.

“The bespeckled coroner shakes at Joel’s question.” pg. 253 What, exactly, was this coroner speckled with? Blood? It doesn’t say.

dragnet: noun A system or network for finding or catching someone, as a criminal wanted by police.

I knew this word from the old television show Dragnet, but I never knew the official definition.

“I want you to help me escape this dragnet.” pg. 417

This week’s question is: What’s the worst book you’ve read recently? (I figure it’s easier than asking your all-time worst, because, well, it’s recent!)

I didn’t have to think too long to find an answer to this question…the prize would have to go to The Well by A. J. Whitten.

Usually I don’t finish books if I feel I will dislike them (since life is far too short to suffer bad books), but I was actually looking forward to reading The Well since I knew A. J. Whitten was Shirley Jump’s pseudonym and during the reading I kept praying it would get better. It didn’t.

The book has not yet been released, so I still have hope that it will go through at least one more round of editing.

Not too long ago, I received an email pointing me in the direction of this book called Wait Until Twilight. The email mentioned that there would be an excerpt on the website.

Well, after reading the brief excerpt, I’m waiting…patiently (or not so).

What I need to do, needs to be done before it gets too dark . . .

Sixteen-year-old Samuel confronts his own inner monster when he discovers a set of deformed triplets whose mother believes they were immaculately conceived. Soon, the babies have taken hold of his waking and sleeping thoughts, and, unable to escape them, he decides to save them, but their shut-in mother and violent older brother want nothing to do with him.

I mean deformed triplets whose mother believes they were immaculately conceived? Does it get more interesting than that?

Wait Until Twilight sounds like it’s going to be a chilling (and twisted) ride and I’m curious to see what unfolds.
