A Great Mail Day

by Ann-Katrina

Yesterday when I checked my mail, I received a wonderful surprise from Jace.

Jace Bookmarks

Two awesome corner bookmarks and a beautiful book thong (in a cool pouch). Of course I squealed like a little girl when I received them because they are even better than the pictures. I’ve even put a couple of them to good use marking my place in the current books of the moment.

So this post serves two purposes: to give a huge thank you to Jace for the wonderful bookmarks, and to tell everyone that if you want to get your hands on some, then you should head over to her Etsy shop.

WoW: The Year of the Zombie

by Ann-Katrina

Welcome to another edition of Waiting on Wednesday where I tell you about the book I happen to be lusting after at the moment.

You Are So Undead to Me Cover After last month’s WoW, it seems that 2009 is turning into the year of the zombie because the next book I find myself looking forward to getting my hot little hands on is You Are So Undead to Me by Stacey Jay.

I came across it by chance while browsing Amazon and the cover looked interesting. Then I read the description and decided that I definitely want to see what’s up.

As you may have guessed from the title, this is a book about zombies. But not just any book about zombies, but a Buffy the Vampire Slayer style book about zombies. And Buffy was just so campy and comical that it worked. I’m hoping the same is true of this one.

Review: I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder

by Ann-Katrina

I Heart You, You Haunt Me Cover

Back Cover of I Heart You, You Haunt Me

Girl meets boy.

Girl loses boy.

Girl gets boy back…

…sort of.

Ava can’t see or touch him, unless she’s dreaming. She can’t hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind. Most would think she’s crazy, but she knows he’s here.

Jackson. The boy Ava thought she’s spend the rest of her life with. He’s back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.

Three Quick Points About I Heart You, You Haunt Me

  • Point 1: It’s really written in verse. OK, I read that it was a verse novel, but I really didn’t know what to expect and true enough, the entire novel, all 200+ pages of it, is one long continuous verse.
  • Point 2: So he’s a poltergeist? Sort of. Let me be upfront here and say I expected a creepier haunting (it’s filed under “Spine-Chilling Horror” at Amazon) and it was anything but. Overall though I couldn’t complain.
  • Point 3: Short story in book form. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but once I finished the book, I realized it could easily be translated into a short story.

2009: The Challenges

by Ann-Katrina

The first week of 2009 is winding too a close and it’s as good a time as any to finish defining my reading goals for the year.

Since I was only warming up my reading muscles last year (since I got started late in the game) I didn’t do much by way of challenges. This year will be different. There are already been a few reading challenges that caught my eye, with at least one being quite synchronous.

Without further ado, here are the challenges I plan to participate in this year (possibly more as I become aware of them):

Sunday Salon: Tackling Two

by Ann-Katrina

Welcome to another edition of The Sunday Salon…

Despite knowing that I probably shouldn’t be, this week I’ve actually been switching between two books. My intention is to finish both because both seem to be quite good so far.

Duma Key Cover The first is, of course, Stephen King’s Duma Key. So far, I’ve been learning about Edgar Freemantle’s back story. You see, he was in a debilitating accident on a construction site which left him without an arm, a seriously maimed leg, and plenty of mental (and memory) issues.

After his wife left him, and his mental health specialist told him it was time for a change, he finds himself renting a house in Duma Key, FL and that’s where he takes up painting (one of his previous pastimes).

The way the story is unfolding, I know something eerie and good is going to go down. Edgar seems like a tough cookie. Although he’s a difficult to like kind of guy superficially, you almost want to have sympathy for him, but you wonder what kind of guy he was before the accident. It’s difficult to tell, but it definitely seems as though he had one of those personalities you had to get used to.
